InFORM Steering Committee
Prepared by: Carrie Rigdon, AFDO Representative to the InFORM Steering Committee
InFORM, Integrated Foodborne Outbreak Response and Management, is a bi-annual conference co-sponsored by APHL, CDC, FDA, and USDA. It brings together epidemiologists, laboratorians, environmental health sanitarians, and food regulatory officials – including participants in PulseNet, OutbreakNet, FoodNet, and Food/Feed Protection Rapid Response Teams – to discuss important investigations and advancements in detecting and preventing food-related illnesses.
The third InFORM conference will be held November 6-9, 2017, at the Hyatt Regency Orange County, Garden Grove, CA.
There has been one meeting each of the Steering Committee and the Environmental Health (EH) Track Planning Committee. The Steering Committee is currently focusing on identifying a keynote speaker and whether to have a conference theme, as well as beginning to plan sessions.
The EH Track Planning Committee is co-chaired by Carrie Rigdon, the AFDO Representative, and Elizabeth Landeen, the NEHA Representative, and has 22 members (including the chairs) from federal, state, and local agencies. We do not have representation yet from NACCHO, ASTHO, and APHL, but are working on those.
The first EH Track planning meeting focused on introductions and overview of the work the committee had ahead of it, including creating an EH Track conference session and contributing ideas to the open and combined sessions, soliciting nominations for and selecting a winner for the 2017 John J. Guzewich Environmental Public Health Team Award, and serving as moderators for sessions. Several presentation topic ideas were recorded. The EH Track Planning Committee will meet at least once a month until the conference is held.
