What is it?
This training is designed to be the classroom component of basic food safety inspector training.
Objective?
The objective is to have these classroom basics complement and integrate with interactive distance learning systems such as the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) ORA U and on-the-job training offered within state and local agencies.
FDA Approved CEUs
The US FDA has approved this course for the purpose of awarding CEUs through its ORA U program. Prior course approval is required by the instructor - it is not an automatic process.

History:
This course was developed as a result of funding provided by a "States Helping States" cooperative agreement between AFDO from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Following the development of the course and materials, a working group of trainers were trained who, in turn, can now deliver this course to state and local food safety regulatory staff. This was done through pilot programs and courses held in Columbus, OH and Denver, CO. The resulting trainers have since then conducted formal training programs to personnel in New York (March 2005) and Mississippi (May, 2005). Since that time, many other courses have been offered.
