Resolution Year 2007
Resolution 2:
Manufactured Food Program Standards
Whereas, AFDO has long supported a nationally integrated food safety system for this country; and
Whereas, AFDO worked with the National Food Safety System (NFSS) project to identify steps which would be required to achieve the vision of a fully integrated food safety system; and
Whereas, uniform criteria and regulatory program standards are recognized as foundational elements needed for establishing equivalency among agencies at all levels of government; and
Whereas, FDA has published its Manufactured Food Program Standards which were developed with input from state regulators; and
Whereas, although these are voluntary standards, are very ambitious, and may take considerable time for states to develop the program capacities required to meet the standards; therefore
Be It Resolved, that AFDO should advise FDA of their support for uniform national manufactured foods program standards; and
Be It Further Resolved, that AFDO advise state program managers of this support and recommend they work with FDA to eliminate any lingering issues, as well as to build the funding mechanisms, program capacities and infrastructure necessary to meet these uniform standards.
