Resolution Number 6:Food Testing to Detect Contamination from Terrorist Acts

Whereas, food has been recognized as a vector for terrorism; and

Whereas, Federal and State agencies must cooperate with each other to develop programs necessary to mitigate this possibility; and

Whereas, a network of cooperating laboratories, through the Food Emergency Response Network (FERN) has been developed for the purpose of analyzing food samples in the event of a biological, chemical or radiological terrorist incident, therefore be it

Resolved, that AFDO requests FDA, CDC and USDA/FSIS partner with other Federal agencies and the States, to fully implement the Food Emergency Response Network (FERN), by establishing a structure, contacts, and goals, be it further

Resolved, that AFDO encourage FDA and other Federal partners seek to establish funding streams for implementation of the FERN network.
