Ethnic Foods
Whereas, the importation, preparation and consumption of Ethnic Foods continues to be a public health concern throughout the nation and
Whereas, for the purposes of this initiative, Ethnic Foods are the foods prepared, stored, packaged, vended or served in the retail facilities operated by Ethnic groups, which are not easily or readily recognizable, or are not commonly seen or whose preparation practices are not ordinarily performed in food establishments in the United States, and whose operators or food handlers commonly speak no English, limited English or English as a second language and
Whereas, the public has an increasing awareness of the dangers and concerns with the safety of the food supply and
Whereas, the threat of Bioterrorism associated with the imported foods continues to be a growing concern of the local, state and federal regulatory agencies and industry they regulate and
Whereas, there has not been a national initiative to gain uniform training, inspection, and effective compliance as it applies to the Ethnic Food industry and
Whereas, AFDO promotes education, communication, and cooperation among government, industry and consumers and
Whereas, AFDO provides guidance and training programs to promote national and international uniform inspections and analysis therefore, be it
Resolved, that AFDO endorses a national Ethnic Food initiative sponsored FDA for local, state and federal food safety officials that will effectively provide a more secure and safer product to the consuming public
