¨ The Retail Food Committee continued to work in partnership with USDA/FSIS training staff to complete delivery of courses to state and local food inspection staffs about meat safety and processing performed at retail food businesses. Using funds awarded in the form of a grant from the USDA-FSIS, AFDO was able to complete the delivery of these courses to the remaining three Regional Affiliates: NEFDOA; MCAFDO; and WAFDO.

¨ Scheduled a pre-conference Recall Symposium prior to the AFDO Annual Educational Conference in Chicago, Illinois in June 2003.
¨ Scheduled a post-conference laboratory workshop entitled “Integrating Diverse Laboratory Resources for National Food Security” to immediately follow the AFDO Annual Educational Conference in Chicago, Illinois in June 2003. Initiated the development of a Basic Investigators Training Course intended to build upon Basic Level I training for food inspections provided by ORA-U and prepare local and state regulators to move to Level II training. Pilot and train-the-trainer courses are to be given in early 2004.
